வாங்க படிக்கலாம் (Vaanga Padikkalam) - Stundet Career guidance program

PST joined hands with Village Committee of Allinagaram to organise a "Career Guidance" program for the students of Allinagaram & nearby villages. The objective of the program, which was organised on May 20, 2012, was to provide the students with required information about the "what courses to study" and "where to study" based on their interests.

Students first went to Dr. Parasuraman, general counsellor, to discuss their interests and the courses they intend to pursue. Based on their course preferences, students then went to a particular information desk to seek guidance detailed information. Separate counselling desks, manned by experienced professors, academicians, software professionals and doctors, for Medical, Engineering, Arts-Sciences, Polytechnique, teacher training and agriculture-related studies were created to address the queries of students related to these courses. Students' queries varied from colleges offering a particular course, the application procedure, cut-off marks, fee structures of different colleges etc.

Around 72 students participated and benefited from the program, conducted for the first time by the Trust. Ms. Kavita, Professor of Physics in Mannar Thirumalai Naicker college, who guided the students in the Arts-Science desk, commented that the students were clear about what courses they wanted to choose and the information they sought were very specific. Mr. Asokan, Director of PST, said the program was a success considering the fact that it was being organised for the first year. Speaking about the program, he said,"Most of the information about colleges and courses is available on the internet. However, many students from rural background are not able to access this information. Our endeavor is to present the information to the students, in a way that is relevant to them, through  the experts". He also said that the Trust intended to organize such a program every year before the commencement of admission and counselling session for various colleges.

Shri Omkaranantha Swamy, inaugurated the program along with N. Govindasamy, Chairman, village council, and spoke about the importance of education. PST sincerely thanks Dr. A Balakrishnana (Agri) & Dr. Shanmuga Priya, M.B.B.S, Prof. C Murugan, Er. S Saravanan, Prof. Kavitha, G. Raja Siva BCE, S.
