"மாணவ சங்கமம் 2012"

To promote the interest in extra-curricular activities among students, PST, together with Naidu Association of Theni organised a student convention "மாணவ சங்கமம்". Students from various schools and colleges in an around the Theni District participated in this convention. Various competitions - Painting, Thirukkural recitation, Elocution, Extempore, Word play, For-n-Against etc. conducted during the day - provided the platform for the students to expose their talents talents and win prizes.

Fund a Student - P. Malarkodi and Selvakumar (2012)

Two deserving students Selvakumar and Malarkodi were awarded Rs. 5000/- each towards their counselling fee by the Trust. They were the toppers in their respective schools in the XII Std Board exams and also topped the Model exams conducted by the Trust in 2012 (Click here for details of Model Exams 2012). They are now pursuing Engineering courses in Karpagam Engg college and Kammavar Engg college respectively. Join us in wishing them a bright future.

Spoken English course - May 2012

With the objective of helping the students to improve their communication skills in English and boost their confidence using English as a communication medium, Parasuram Salammal Trust organised spoken English classes for the class XI students of Allinagaram Govt. High School for the second consecutive year (Click here to view the details of the 2011 spoken English course).

A registration-cum-inaugural session was organised on March 27 in the school premises. 30 students registered enthusiastically for the program. A short orientation program about the course and its structure was conducted for the registered students. Mr. Mohan, Head of English Department, spoke about the importance of spoken English training during the orientation program. Dr. N Parasuraman, the spoken English tutor, explained to the students the methodology of the course and the targets to be achieved through the course. He also gave a few tips about the basic preparations required for the course.


The course was conducted from a month from May 2-30, 2012 in the residence of Dr. Parasuraman. 26 among the 30 registered students participated and benefited from the course. Apart from the regular lessons, discussions were held periodically during the course, in which students were encouraged to express their views in English. At the end of the course, a group discussion session in English was held and prizes were awarded to meritorious students. Prizes were also given to 4 students, who maintained 100% attendance during the course. A certificate of proficiency was also awarded to all the participating students. One of the students felt that her summer vacation was utilized fruitfully and thanked Mr. Asokan, Director of the Trust for giving her the opportunity.

வாங்க படிக்கலாம் (Vaanga Padikkalam) - Stundet Career guidance program

PST joined hands with Village Committee of Allinagaram to organise a "Career Guidance" program for the students of Allinagaram & nearby villages. The objective of the program, which was organised on May 20, 2012, was to provide the students with required information about the "what courses to study" and "where to study" based on their interests.



Students first went to Dr. Parasuraman, general counsellor, to discuss their interests and the courses they intend to pursue. Based on their course preferences, students then went to a particular information desk to seek guidance detailed information. Separate counselling desks, manned by experienced professors, academicians, software professionals and doctors, for Medical, Engineering, Arts-Sciences, Polytechnique, teacher training and agriculture-related studies were created to address the queries of students related to these courses. Students' queries varied from colleges offering a particular course, the application procedure, cut-off marks, fee structures of different colleges etc. 




Around 72 students participated and benefited from the program, conducted for the first time by the Trust. Ms. Kavita, Professor of Physics in Mannar Thirumalai Naicker college, who guided the students in the Arts-Science desk, commented that the students were clear about what courses they wanted to choose and the information they sought were very specific. Mr. Asokan, Director of PST, said the program was a success considering the fact that it was being organised for the first year. Speaking about the program, he said,"Most of the information about colleges and courses is available on the internet. However, many students from rural background are not able to access this information. Our endeavor is to present the information to the students, in a way that is relevant to them, through  the experts". He also said that the Trust intended to organize such a program every year before the commencement of admission and counselling session for various colleges. 



Shri Omkaranantha Swamy, inaugurated the program along with N. Govindasamy, Chairman, village council, and spoke about the importance of education. PST sincerely thanks Dr. A Balakrishnana (Agri) & Dr. Shanmuga Priya, M.B.B.S, Prof. C Murugan, Er. S Saravanan, Prof. Kavitha, G. Raja Siva BCE, S. Computer Courses for students - May 2012

Knowledge of computers has become an essential requirement in today's technology-driven world, irrespective of one's career or field of work. With the objective of introducing the world of computers to the students from the rural Govt. schools, PST arranged computer courses for  FOUR deserving students - S. Nithya, P. Malakodi, M. Krishnaveni and S. Pandichelvi - in SRM Infotech Computer Education & VET Centre in Theni.

Model Exams 2012


For the 3rd consecutive year, Model exams for students from four Govt schools  in Theni District were organized by the Parasuram Salammal Trust. These special exams are part of the “Vazhikaati program” of the Trust, which provides the students the required guidance to succeed in their Board examinations. Examinations were conducted in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and a total of 295 students benefited from these examinations.

Cash Incentives (Rs 500 , Rs 300, Rrs 200  for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively) were sponsored by Dr. Anburajan (PST Trustee). Shields of merit were awarded by the Rotary Club of Theni. We thank the headmasters/headmistress of the all the schools  - Mr. M Malayarasan (Allinagaram Govt school), HM Ms. Chellapappu (Koduvilarpatty Govt school), HM Mr. Selvam (Gandamanur Govt school) and HM Mr. Vasudevan (Lakshmipuram Govt school) – and the teachers and staff members of the schools for their kind support and guidance in organizing the model examinations successfully. We also thank Mr. Dhanam, Mr. Amirtham and Mr. Pannerselvam for evaluating the answer sheets of the students and gave detailed remarks for presenting the answers in a better.

STUDENT ORIENTATION PROGRAM


A prize-distribution and student orientation program was organized by the Trust jointly with Rotary Club of Theni for the students, who participated in the Model Exams. The program was held on February 20, 2012 in Allinagaram Govt school and Professor Mohanasundaram was the chief guest. During his interaction with the students, Prof. Mohan captivated the students for more than an hour through his informative speech and comical quotes. He also explained to the students how easy it was to learn. His motivational speech truly inspired several students, who thanked the organizers of conducting this program. Prof. Mohan and the members of the Rotary Club of Theni also distribute prizes for the students from different schools, who secured highest marks.

Yoga training sessions @ Koduvilarpatti High School - Jan 2012 -

Education system – at least, in India – creates constant stress on the students. The competitive system relies on constant round of homework, regular tests, end-of-term and end-of-year exams. The pressure created by these examinations, grades and ranks can at times have a lasting impact in mind / health of the young students. In order prepare the students for a rigorous examination year and ensure that they cope-up with the pressure, Parasuram Salammal Trust conducted Yoga training sessions for the students of Koduvilarpatty High school. 




The students of Std XI were the main target group of this innovative program, the first of its kind for Govt. school students in Theni District. Around 33 students benefited from the sessions organized over three different days - January 11, 13 and 21, 2012. Yoga trainer Dr. N Parasuraman remarked that the primary objective of the session was to reduce the mental stress. Apart from this, the meditation program also helped the students to improve their concentration and their memory power.

Ms. Chellapapa, Headmistress of the school, commented that this was a much-needed program for the students and thanked the Trust for organizing such a useful program. She also requested the Trust to conduct these sessions regularly so that other students from the school can also be benefited from the program.
