Education system – at least, in India – creates constant stress on the students. The competitive system relies on constant round of homework, regular tests, end-of-term and end-of-year exams. The pressure created by these examinations, grades and ranks can at times have a lasting impact in mind / health of the young students. In order prepare the students for a rigorous examination year and ensure that they cope-up with the pressure, Parasuram Salammal Trust conducted Yoga training sessions for the students of Koduvilarpatty High school.
The students of Std XI were the main target group of this innovative program,
the first of its kind for Govt. school students in Theni District. Around 33
students benefited from the sessions organized over three different days - January
11, 13 and 21, 2012. Yoga trainer Dr. N Parasuraman remarked that the primary
objective of the session was to reduce the mental stress. Apart from this, the
meditation program also helped the students to improve their concentration and
their memory power.
Ms. Chellapapa, Headmistress of the school, commented that this was a
much-needed program for the students and thanked the Trust for organizing such
a useful program. She also requested the Trust to conduct these sessions regularly
so that other students from the school can also be benefited from the program.
